1st Pediatrician Visit

Clean bill of health for Eddie!

Weight trending: Birth 6#12 oz
night of March 14th 6#8.8 oz
                          discharch weight 6#6 oz

Pediatrician's office Measurements:
weight: 6#4oz (25th percentile)
length: 20 inches (50th percentile) (it's amazing how when they are born with nice round heads and no molding, they don't shrink)
head circumference: 36 cm (50th percentile)

The pediatrician was pleased with his physical exam as well. Circumcision is healing well. Jaundice looks fine. His bilirubin level before leaving hospital was only 6, so low risk anyhow. Otherwise we had a long discussion about our fears of breastfeeding/breastmilk not going over well and the possible need for soy, only because of Rowan's history. At this point, Eddie is acting fine (despite his lack of sleep the last 2 nights and constant eating) Doesn't act uncomfortable, and sleeps great during the day (of course). But we are hoping that lack of sleeping at night is just the lack of breastmilk at this point and that it will get better in the next day or two once the milk is fully there. The Pediatrician was open to us trying soy if we think we are running into issues. But he fully encourages us to continue with breastfeeding at this point.

We will be back tomorrow sometime for a weight check, hoping that we will be on the upward trend before the weekend!

Happy St. Patty's Day

By the time I could get Rowan to wear her St. Patty's day shirt, it was difficult to get her to pose for a picture! If you put Eddie on her lap though, it is a different story. Would have liked a few of her by herself, but perhaps she is just letting us know that she is ready to share everything, including picture time with her little brother!
The little helper in action!
And the little peanut! No pants that fit him, so his St. Patty's day shirt was a short wear today too! But really, it's all about the pictures anyhow!

Homeward bound...

Well, we made it home by about 5:30pm, which we didn't think was going to be possible. The PM shift nurse came in the room and acted like there was so much to be done for discharge still and that it would be awhile. Luckily she got some help from a co-worker to get Eddie's things done, while she finished up the discharge teaching and information with us! And before we knew it, we were out the door.

I had mixed feelings about leaving the hospital at just over 24 hours post delivery. I really just wanted to get home to Rowan the most and get things more 'regular' for her. But I was hesitant to not take advantage of one more night in the hospital. But who am I kidding, you don't sleep in the hospital, and they weren't doing anything for me there that I or Ed couldn't do at home.

It was rare to see the little man with his eyes open, so here are a few pictures of the few times he was awake and not eating.
And into the car we go! First car ride!

Hospital update

Remembered some interesting facts from yesterday that I left out of initial post....

Lil Eddie had a nuchal cord x1 (umbilical cord around neck 1 time) and a true knot in the cord (umbilical cord was tied in a knot) clearly it didn't create any issues, but it could have!

Otherwise, things have been going well. Breastfeeding is already a challenge. Eddie is starting out to eat just like his sister did! Rough! Using a nipple shield since we had blood blisters after the first nursing session! On the other hand, he seems content with what he is getting. Already had some leaking issues last night, so the milk will be flowing before we know it!

Circumcision was done this morning as we were/are pushing for discharge just after 24 hours. And that looks great. Has been sleepy but still willing to eat. The little boy barely cries (knock on wood) even for diaper changes.

Last night, Ed went home with Rowan for the night to ensure her a good nights sleep (which didn't happen anyway because of her cough/runny nose). But at least she was happy. Grandma Pam stayed at the hospital with Lil Ed and I. We got a few hours of sleep, broken up. I am surviving so far, I am sure it will hit me in the next couple of days!

That is all for now. Lots to get done in the next couple hours to get out of here! Rowan is so patiently waiting for her brother at home! She definitely loves him! She was sad and teary when they took him to the nursery this morning to be seen by the Pediatrician!

Sorry, having issues getting pics transferred from my phone and haven't transferred from the camera today. Maybe tomorrow!

Lil Eddie

A few pictures of our new addition...
Rowan has done a great job so far sharing her Mommy and Daddy. She held Lil Eddie a few times, briefly of course. She bought him a toy (that plays music and she had Papa dancing in the room with her too, silly) and he bought her a gift too. Her own camera, a Big Sister book, some bubbles, and Toy Story stickers. Rowan started a cough yesterday, and seems to have a bit of a fever, so we have been medicating her. But she has been acting appropriately.

It's A Boy!!!
