last soccer, 1st sleepover

Last day of spring soccer for this dude!
He even got a trophy!
And Rowan was invited to sleepover at Elaina's house for Jenae's birthday party tonight. Her very first sleepover not at a relatives house! The plan was they were going to sleep outside in tents, but the weather forecast might not allow for that, so we will see.

last day of 1st grade

This girl was sleepy today after a long day in the car yesterday and an emotional week. But nothing a quick shower couldn't help!
Last bus stop this school year!

worst drive ever!

We left before lunch time to head home. Our plan was to stop in Cedar Rapids to visit Great Grandpa Dick on our way home. The hour and a half drive ended up with us sitting on the highway for 5 hours due to an accident! We were about a mile from a U turn, and there were rumors that people were getting ticketed for turning around at them. So we waited, and waited, and waited...until finally we gave in and did the U turn, took a detour and were finally on our way to Cedar Rapids. Not only was Grandpa Dick's on our way home, but due to the funeral this week, Ed would not be able to go to IA for his and Great Grandpa Dick's birthday's next week like he had originally planned. So we picked up a DQ cake to share with him. Our visit was very short due to our sitting on the highway for 5 hours! But we got to visit a bit none the less.
Kids and Great Grandpa Dick
He was very happy to see us, even if it was short.
We sang Happy Birthday to these 2! 33 and 88!
We even made time to play a quick marble game. Kids love this game when we are there.

Saying see you later!
After a very long day in the car...these kids did great. While we were stuck on the highway, miraculously, no one had to pee. We were in and out of the car to entertain them. Then we were able to stretch while visiting Great Grandpa Dick. Then we gased up and got some dinner and were on the road the rest of the way home. A 5 hour energy later, Ed and I made it awake the whole way home. Was dark when we pulled in. Then it was off to bed to prepare for Rowan's last day of school tomorrow.

Family remembering Great Papa

We all met at the funeral home this morning to proceed to the cemetery. Snuck in a few pictures...first time in awhile that Ed and all of his cousins were together in one place. And of course we can never leave out the great grandkids below.
The kids all cleaned up for the day.
After the cemetery, we all went to Chuck and Meg's house for a little lunch and visiting before we had to hit the road for home. Rowan had to miss a couple of days of school this week, and tomorrow is her last day which she wanted to be back for. So we left for home from the Hott's house.

Road trip to Moline

...to honor a great man! Great Papa passed away last week during the night, so we travelled to spend some time with family remembering him. Was a very sad day made so much better seeing people we don't get to see often enough. We arrived in the early afternoon and checked into the hotel before getting ready for the visitation.
The kids were well behaved and had fun seeing their family...was a very emotional day. After the service, we all had dinner together at a local restaurant. Then it was off to bed to prepare for the burial the following day.
On a lighter note, Rowan was taking silly selfies, and wanted me to partake when we were in the car. So this is what you get!

field day @ school

The kids had field day today at school. So, an afternoon of outside athletic activities for the kids. Had to dress appropriately...and like twins of course.
Rowan did great at field day! Eddie and I were hot...but was a beautiful day for it. They did some hurdles, football throws, kicking, hula hooping, sack races and running of course. At the end they all got a popsicle! Very fun!

shades model

Uncle Mitch and his buddies have been selling these sunglasses in Miami to help make some extra money...so we sent him this picture so he could use him as a sunglass model! Pretty darn cute!
